Jacinter Ojil is a 29-year-old mother of two boys, aged 11 and 7, hailing from Kaila Sublocation in East
Seme Kisumu County. Her life took a difficult turn when she lost her husband several years ago, leaving
her to face numerous challenges on her own. However, her fortunes changed when she came across ADS
Nyanza.
Jacinter became a member of the Kaila Kajulu Koker Advocacy Committee within ADS NYANZA, having
joined through one of the CIGs in her locality. Currently, she serves as the Organizing Secretary of the
committee. She admits that” ADS NYANZA has profoundly impacted my life, providing me with life-
changing skills and knowledge through various training sessions.”
The trainings she got covered several essential topics, including awareness creation on human rights,
advocacy skills, budget cycle, magnet theatre, civic education with youths, and partnership with duty
bearers and other stakeholders. She attests that,” Thanks to the efforts of ADS NYANZA, my community
members have been enlightened on how to assert their rights effectively during public participation
meetings, empowering them to actively engage in matters affecting their lives and the development of their
community.”
Additionally, with the newfound knowledge e.g. Saving with Education, experience, and support from ADS
NYANZA, Jacinter established a small shop in Konjulu A along Holo Maguar Road. In her shop, she sells
fresh produce from her farm (groundnuts, maize, beans, and bananas) which allows her to add value to
her farm products while serving her community. She also stocks popular grocery items such as soap,
milk, bread, maize flour, eggs, and cooking oil. The success of her small business has been instrumental
in supporting herself and her family, giving her the means to pay for her children's school fees.
She possesses a strong determination to continue growing her business and improve her life and that of
her community. Jacinter remains thankful for ADS NYANZA's transformative impact on her life and hopes
to continue collaborating with the organization to achieve even greater positive changes.
